Want to graduate faster in combination with a part-time job?
You can finally begin your graduation thesis. You have probably been looking forward to this, as you are just one step away from earning that coveted diploma. Then, you can start searching for your first real job. Alternatively, you may choose to travel for a while before fully committing to your career. That is also a possibility, of course. In practice, it often turns out that the thesis process is underestimated. This is primarily due to the need to balance it with your graduation internship and a part-time job. Additionally, you still want to have time for enjoyable activities. And that makes sense because you can’t always be under pressure. With the tips provided in this article, we will assist you in consistently working on your thesis despite having a graduation internship and part-time job. This way, you will graduate on time!
Avoid procrastination
Sometimes, the combination of working part-time and participating in a graduation internship, along with pursuing graduation itself, can lead to procrastination. Does writing your thesis really have to wait? This is truly unfortunate because the longer it takes to graduate, the harder it becomes to secure a good job or embark on that world trip you’ve been dreaming of. Employers often have strict requirements regarding timely graduation as well. The more you postpone it, the more challenging it becomes to tackle your thesis.
Practical tips to graduate faster if you also have a busy part-time job
- First of all, ensure that you have a current and relevant topic. And, above all else, choose a topic that aligns with your interests and preferences, as this will make the process of completing your thesis much easier.
- Ask your client the right questions and try to uncover the underlying question they are seeking to address. Inquire if your client has any pending projects that you can conduct research on. Always ask targeted questions to keep the focus on the subject matter. I recently wrote an article that offers practical tips for your thesis, including how to solidify your topic by asking the right questions to your client.
- Make sure to explore the available literature and assess its recency. Information from 1999 is outdated and should be avoided. Use current sources and check your school’s knowledge base to determine if any relevant comparable studies have already been conducted.
- Structure your thesis by creating a table of contents and plan the delivery timeline for each section. Alternatively, use mind mapping techniques to establish a clear structure for your research proposal or thesis. Once your research proposal has been approved, you can proceed with sending out your survey. Consider what information you need and when it would be most useful. Plan your activities leading up to the deadline you have set for completing your thesis.
Get help in time if you are unable to graduate
If you regularly consult with an experienced thesis coach who can assist you with the content, structure, and process, it can save you a significant amount of time (and struggle). Along with thesis supervision, a thesis coach also provides the necessary support to help you progress. Moreover, your thesis coach will aid you with the content of your research proposal, resit, or any issues you may encounter, such as selecting the best topic, properly defining it, identifying the appropriate theory for your chosen topic, approaching the research, and determining the most suitable research method (qualitative, quantitative, or a combination).
