Thesis review: expert feedback on your content and structure
You may have completed most of your thesis and still be unsure whether the different chapters form a clear and convincing whole. Is your problem analysis sufficiently focused? Do your research questions follow logically from the problem? Does your methodology enable you to answer those questions, and are your conclusions supported by your results?
With a thesis review from Jouw Scriptiecoach, an experienced coach takes an independent and content-focused look at your document. We assess its completeness, structure, research logic and coherence and explain where the content is unclear, inconsistent or insufficiently developed.
The review is intended for students writing an English thesis or graduation project at a Dutch university or university of applied sciences. Your programme’s graduation manual, assessment criteria and any feedback from your supervisor remain the starting point.
You receive clear feedback that helps you improve the thesis yourself. We do not write or rewrite your thesis for you, and we cannot guarantee a particular grade.
When is a thesis review useful?
After working on the same document for months, it can be difficult to assess your own work objectively. You know what you intended to explain, but your assessor can only evaluate what is actually written in the thesis.
A content review may be useful when:
- you have completed a full or nearly complete draft;
- you are unsure whether important information is missing;
- the chapters are individually complete but do not yet form a coherent whole;
- your supervisor has provided feedback that you find difficult to interpret;
- your research question, methodology and results do not seem fully aligned;
- you are preparing to submit your thesis and want an independent assessment;
- you have received an insufficient grade and need to understand what must be improved;
- you are completing a graduation project abroad while enrolled at a Dutch institution.

What does a thesis review include?
A strong thesis is more than a collection of well-written chapters. Each part should have a clear purpose, and the argument should develop logically from the initial problem to the final conclusion and recommendations.
Depending on your assignment and assessment criteria, your coach may review the following elements.
Context and problem analysis
We assess whether the reason for the research is clear and whether the underlying problem has been sufficiently investigated. We also look at whether assumptions are presented as assumptions or supported by relevant evidence.
Research objective and research questions
Your research objective, main question and sub-questions should follow logically from the problem analysis. We check whether the questions are sufficiently focused, researchable and appropriate for the type of graduation project you are completing.
Theoretical framework
We consider whether the theory supports your research questions and whether the central concepts, models or relationships are clearly explained. We also look at how the theoretical framework connects to the methodology and analysis.
Research methodology
We assess whether the chosen research design and methods are suitable for answering the research questions. This may include qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods or design-oriented research.
The review focuses on how clearly you justify your choices, describe your participants or data sources and explain your data collection and analysis. Where relevant, we also consider validity, reliability, credibility and research ethics.
Results and analysis
We check whether the results are presented clearly and objectively and whether they answer the sub-questions. We also look at whether the analysis follows from the method described and whether interpretation has been kept separate from the factual presentation of findings where required.
Conclusion, discussion and recommendations
Your conclusion should answer the main research question and be supported by the results. The discussion should reflect critically on the research, while recommendations should follow logically from the findings and fit the scope of the assignment.
Structure and coherence
Throughout the review, we pay attention to the overall line of reasoning. We identify repetition, missing connections, contradictions and sections that appear in the wrong chapter.
Language and academic writing may also be discussed when they affect the clarity or interpretation of the content. A full correction of spelling, grammar and academic English is a separate form of support.
What will you receive?
Your coach provides concrete feedback that you can use to revise the thesis yourself. Depending on the document and the type of review agreed upon, this may include:
- comments and questions in the document;
- explanations of unclear, incomplete or inconsistent sections;
- feedback on the connection between chapters;
- identification of the most important improvement priorities;
- practical suggestions for your next steps.
The aim is not simply to tell you that something is incorrect. Your coach explains why an element may not yet meet the requirements and what you should reconsider or clarify.
Your original text remains your own. We do not make substantive decisions on your behalf or quietly rewrite parts of the thesis without explaining the underlying issue.
How does the thesis review work?
1. Discuss your situation
You start with a free, no-obligation consultation. We discuss your degree programme, the type of thesis or graduation project, your current draft, the feedback you have received and your deadline.
2. Share the relevant documents
To assess what type of review you need, it is helpful to provide the current version of your thesis and, where available, your graduation manual, assessment form and supervisor feedback.
3. Determine the scope of the review
We consider whether you need a review of the full document, feedback on specific chapters or additional coaching while you process the feedback. We also assess which coach has suitable subject, research or academic-writing experience.
4. Receive content-focused feedback
The coach reviews the agreed parts of your document and provides clear, practical feedback. The review is based on your own programme requirements rather than on a single general thesis format.
5. Revise the thesis yourself
You remain responsible for deciding how to process the feedback and for making the changes. When you need help understanding or implementing the feedback, you can discuss whether follow-up coaching would be useful.
A thesis review based on your programme requirements
Dutch universities and universities of applied sciences do not all use the same thesis format or assessment criteria. A practice-based graduation project may require a professional product, implementation plan or design, while an academic thesis may place greater emphasis on theory, methodology and scientific argumentation.
Jouw Scriptiecoach therefore does not assess your thesis against one fixed template. We use the requirements of your own degree programme as the main reference point.
Where available, your coach considers:
- the graduation manual or thesis guidelines;
- the assessment form or rubric;
- written feedback from your supervisor or assessor;
- requirements for a professional product or advisory report;
- instructions for the research method and final deliverables.

Thesis review, proofreading or thesis coaching?
These forms of support serve different purposes.
A thesis review is suitable when you already have a substantial document and want an independent assessment of the content, logic, completeness and coherence.
Proofreading or a language review focuses primarily on grammar, spelling, punctuation, academic style and readability. This may be useful when the content is complete but the English still needs improvement.
Thesis coaching is more interactive. During one-to-one sessions, a coach helps you understand a problem, make decisions and work through specific improvements. Coaching may be more suitable when you are still developing the research or expect to need support while revising several chapters.
During the free consultation, we help you determine which option best fits your situation. A combination of review and coaching may also be appropriate.
You remain responsible for your thesis
Jouw Scriptiecoach supports you in understanding and improving your own work. We do not conduct the research for you, invent findings, write chapters on your behalf or guarantee that your thesis will receive a passing grade.
Your coach may identify weaknesses, ask critical questions and explain possible improvements. You remain responsible for:
- the research choices you make;
- the collection and analysis of your data;
- the accuracy of your information;
- the arguments and conclusions in the document;
- processing the feedback in your own words;
- complying with your institution’s academic-integrity rules.
This approach ensures that you remain the author of the thesis and can explain and defend the choices you have made.
Online thesis review in the Netherlands or abroad
The thesis review and any follow-up coaching can take place online. This is useful when you are studying in another part of the Netherlands or completing an internship, field study or graduation project abroad.
As long as you are enrolled at a Dutch educational institution, your coach can base the review on the requirements of your programme, regardless of where you are carrying out the research.
Who will review your thesis?
Your thesis is reviewed by a coach whose experience matches your degree programme, research method and the type of feedback you need. We do not assign every thesis to the same general reviewer.
Depending on your research, we may look for a coach with experience in areas such as qualitative research, quantitative analysis, academic writing, business and marketing research, psychology, technical subjects or practice-based graduation projects.
Your coach considers both the content of your document and the requirements of your own programme. This may include your graduation manual, assessment form and feedback from your supervisor or assessor.
